On the late afternoon of 12 September 2025, several shots were fired at four men in the Alagoas neighbourhood of Peso da Régua, in the district of Vila Real. Three of the men were admitted to the emergency department of the local health unit for Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. The Republican National Guard and the Judicial Police attended and seized firearms and ammunition from the suspects. A father and son were charged. The father, aged 45, faces three counts of attempted aggravated homicide and the son, aged 22, one count. According to the prosecution, the victims survived only by "sheer luck", and tension between the rival groups persists. The father was arrested the day after the shooting and is under house arrest. The son, arrested in December 2025, is serving an eight-year sentence from a separate conviction. The trial opened at the Vila Real court on 15 September 2026, where both men declined to give evidence.
