    · Convicted · 2 sources

An elderly German couple, aged 79 and 71, were killed by their live-in caretakers at a rural property in Baleizão (Beja, Alentejo) in April 2023; their bodies were found in an advanced state of decomposition. The killing was reportedly driven by a breakdown in the working relationship and a financial motive — the suspects took a vehicle and bank cards belonging to the victims. The suspects were convicted and sentenced to 22 years in prison each, but the written judgment has twice been sent back on appeal for reformulation; a third reading is scheduled for September 2026, and the suspects remain free after reaching the maximum limit of pretrial detention.
