A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest in the city of Barreiro on 1 May 2026, in what the Polícia Judiciária described as a context of group and youth violence following several earlier attempts at assault. According to the PJ, the suspect and two other youths, one of them aged 15, saw the victim walking towards a car accompanied by some relatives and decided to attack him by throwing stones at him. The victim ran, but was intercepted and stabbed in the thorax. The wound collapsed his left lung and placed him in danger of his life. A 17-year-old detained by the Setúbal directorate of the Polícia Judiciária on suspicion of carrying out the attack was remanded in custody to await trial, it was announced on 31 August 2026. He was detained in the course of an inquiry by the Barreiro section.
