A minor was seriously injured during an evening of violence in the centre of Arnhem on 29 September 2026, and one of the people arrested afterwards is suspected of attempted manslaughter. Police were called to a fight at Arnhem Centraal station at about 21:30. A group of roughly fifteen young people was involved; when officers arrived the group scattered, and further incidents then broke out at several locations in the surrounding city centre, among them the Korenmarkt and the Willemsplein. Three people were injured. One of them, a minor, was seriously hurt. Police said a stabbing had probably also taken place. A bystander account described a victim with wounds to the chest and shoulder, with others stemming the bleeding with a T-shirt. Eight people aged between 17 and 20, from various places in the Netherlands, were arrested, three of them at the central station. One of the eight is suspected of attempted manslaughter. The two other injured people were themselves designated as suspects. Police said they were still investigating what had happened and what the involvement of each suspect was, and appealed for witnesses to the fight to come forward. No charge decision had been announced.

Three people were injured in an attack at a service station on via Martiri di Cervarolo, in the Buco del Signore district of Reggio Emilia, on the evening of Sunday 27 September 2026. All three were taken urgently to the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova and none was in a life-threatening condition; the local health authority described their injuries as orthopaedic trauma. According to the health authority, a 66-year-old woman was attacked first, with a screwdriver, and was due to undergo surgery. Two people who came to her aid were also injured: a 49-year-old man, operated on overnight and admitted to a general ward, and a 24-year-old woman, who was expected to be discharged the same day. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was arrested an hour after the attack and held in custody pending a validation hearing. He is to answer for aggravated attempted homicide. Police, coordinated by the public prosecutor's office, were examining his reported drug dependency; the health authority said he had recently begun treatment at the Reggio Emilia mental health centre, and he had a previous complaint against him from April for threats and criminal damage.

He was taken to a hospital in the city by ambulance and was admitted for treatment. The attacker fled the scene. Following a search, officers of the crime prevention and suppression unit of the Thessaloniki crime investigation directorate located and arrested a 16-year-old. Four home-made packages of cannabis with a combined weight of 3.3 grams were found in his possession and seized. A case file was drawn up against the arrested person by the Lefkos Pyrgos crime investigation department for attempted homicide and for offences under the weapons and narcotics laws, and he is to be brought before the competent prosecutor.

A man was stabbed outside the Cucine Popolari, a long-established soup kitchen in Padua, on the afternoon of Tuesday 15 September 2026. He was found by officers with knife wounds to his left flank, hands and arms, and was taken by ambulance to the Ospedale Civile, where he underwent emergency surgery. Investigators described one very deep wound to the left flank as potentially damaging to vital organs, with more serious consequences avoided only by chance. Officers sealed off the nearby Giardini dell'Arena, where one of the suspects had fled and was trying to hide among the people there wearing a dark sweatshirt and sunglasses. A 25-year-old Egyptian asylum seeker was stopped, taken to police headquarters for identification, then arrested for attempted homicide and taken to the Padua prison. Investigators found the attack was not an isolated event but part of a series of threats and earlier episodes of violence. That evening officers traced a second Egyptian man, aged 27, identified as having taken part in the assault. He was found with three grams of hashish and was reported to the authorities. The Questore of Padua ordered his transfer to a detention centre in Milan and began proceedings to revoke the arrested man's residence permit.

A man in his 60s was found seriously injured in Birkelundsbakken, in the Årstad district of Bergen, shortly after 01:00 on the night to Monday 14 September 2026. A passer-by found him with injuries consistent with violence and with clothes smelling of petrol. He was admitted to hospital; his condition was not made public. A man in his 20s was arrested later that day and provisionally charged by police with attempted murder. On the morning of 11 September 2026, shortly before lessons began at about 08:00, a pupil was stabbed at a secondary technical school in the Voltino neighbourhood of Zagreb. A pupil at the school wounded another pupil and a school cleaner with a knife; the attack took place in front of the toilets. The wounded boy was taken to the university hospital centre in Zagreb with severe, life-threatening injuries, including stab wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was operated on and moved to paediatric intensive care. The deputy director of the hospital said that evening that he was not yet conscious and could not communicate, that his condition was under control and there were so far no complications, and that doctors expected him to begin breathing on his own during the night. His mother was with him. The cleaner was also seriously injured. A senior official at the education ministry praised her, saying she had been at her post, had acted with great courage when the commotion broke out and had prevented the tragedy from being even greater. The official said the wounded pupil and the pupil suspected of the attack are both first-year pupils who had been at the school for five days and had attended the same primary school. He would not confirm whether a quarrel preceded the attack, saying the investigation was still under way and the facts would be known once the police reported. A crisis team remained at the school through the day and was to continue offering support to pupils and staff over the weekend and the following week. On 12 September Zagreb police said they had completed their investigation. They filed a criminal complaint against the suspect, a minor, for attempted aggravated murder of the wounded pupil and attempted murder of two school employees, both aged 59: the cleaner who was stabbed, and a second employee he tried to injure with a sharp object. He was also reported for violating the rights of nine children who were nearby during the attack. Staff overpowered him and held him until police arrived. An investigating judge ordered him held in pre-trial detention because of the risk of influencing witnesses and of reoffending.

A man was stabbed in the throat under the porticoes of piazza Garibaldi in Novara, by the city's railway station, on 10 September 2026. Police were alerted to a man wounded in the neck by a bladed weapon and established that the victim had been struck in the throat at the culmination of a quarrel that officers described as being over trivial matters. The blow lacerated his jugular vein, and the wound was judged so serious that the officers took him to hospital themselves. He survived. His attacker fled the scene immediately on an electric scooter. The following day the mobile squad identified the attacker from CCTV footage and interviews with people informed of the events, and submitted a report to the prosecutor asking for a precautionary measure to be considered. The measure was granted by an order issued on the evening of 28 September. On 29 September the suspect, a 25-year-old man of no fixed abode with previous convictions, was located by investigators in the area of Vercelli railway station and arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He was found in possession of 29.2 grams of hashish and reported at liberty for a separate offence of possession for the purpose of dealing. He was taken into custody at the disposal of the judicial authority.

Officers arrived quickly and arrested a pupil, a minor, who is suspected of attempted murder. Police are investigating the incident as attempted murder. Am 6. September 2026 wurde am Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg in Schönefeld ein 48-jähriger Servicemitarbeiter im Sicherheitsbereich schwer verletzt. Zwei Fluggäste waren zu spät zum Boarding eines Fluges nach Tallinn gekommen, woraufhin ihnen am Gate A34 im Terminal 1 die Mitnahme verweigert wurde. Es kam zum Streit mit dem Mitarbeiter, der im Auftrag einer Fluggesellschaft das Boarding abwickelte. Nach den von der WELT wiedergegebenen Berichten über die Aufnahmen der Überwachungskameras schlug und trat der Angreifer nahezu drei Minuten lang auf sein Opfer ein, wiederholt auch gegen den Kopf, während ein zweiter Mann mögliche Helfer auf Abstand hielt. Der Mitarbeiter ging mehrfach zu Boden. Schließlich überwältigten Passagiere den Angreifer. Der Verletzte musste vom Rettungsdienst versorgt werden. Der 22-jährige Tatverdächtige, der nach Angaben der Polizei angetrunken war, kam am 15. September in Untersuchungshaft. Die Staatsanwaltschaft Cottbus ermittelt gegen ihn wegen versuchten Totschlags.

Er erlitt schwere Verletzungen und wurde in ein Krankenhaus gebracht. Der Schütze flüchtete. Einsatzkräfte sperrten den Tatort weiträumig ab und suchten in der Umgebung nach Spuren; das Fahrzeug wurde kriminaltechnisch untersucht. Die Mordkommission hat die Ermittlungen übernommen. Angaben zu einem möglichen Tatverdächtigen oder einem Motiv machte die Polizei zunächst nicht, und ob gezielt auf den Mann geschossen wurde, ist Gegenstand der laufenden Ermittlungen.

At about 06:00 on Friday 4 September 2026 a 31-year-old man was seriously wounded in the home he shared with his partner in the municipality of Moita, in the district of Setúbal. According to the Polícia Judiciária the attacker, motivated by jealousy, used a large kitchen knife and struck him several times, causing injuries that placed his life in danger. He required two blood transfusions to replace the blood he had lost. The suspect, his 24-year-old partner, was arrested outside the act on suspicion of aggravated attempted homicide. Brought before a judge for a first questioning as a formal suspect, he was remanded in custody. The investigation is being directed by the domestic-violence section of the regional prosecution service in Lisbon, based at the court in Seixal.

Three men were taken to hospital after a stabbing on the De Ruijterkade, behind Amsterdam Centraal station, on the evening of 29 August 2026. Emergency services were called at about 19:30 and several ambulances and police units attended. Four men were injured in total. One of them was arrested at the scene as a suspect. Police said none of the injured was in a life-threatening condition. Footage circulating on social media shows a man who appears to have been involved in the incident broadcasting a live stream, in which he argues with a group of men and says, among other things, that he is not afraid of six or seven men and that "they are all going to fall". He then lunges at one of the men and stabs him, which police have confirmed. The group then set upon him, punching and kicking him, and one of them appears to stop the camera. The suspect, a 43-year-old man from Naarden, was among the four injured and was himself taken to hospital. He is accused of stabbing three men. He was due to be brought before an examining magistrate on 1 September 2026. On 15 September 2026 the Public Prosecution Service confirmed that his pre-trial detention had been lifted. He remains a suspect, invokes self-defence, and the investigation continues. The injured men taken to hospital were able to go home the same day or the next.

A 19-year-old man was left in a serious condition in Turin on the afternoon of 26 August 2026 after being struck by a car in lungo Po Antonelli, in the Vanchiglietta district near the city centre. According to the reporting, two young men on an electric scooter snatched a gold necklace from a 39-year-old Turin resident. Rather than calling the emergency services, he got into his car, chased them and rammed them at speed, sending them off the road. An eyewitness quoted by another newspaper said the driver had acted deliberately; that account is a witness statement and not a judicial finding. According to witnesses and prosecutors, a van collided with the rider's fat bike — a fast electric bicycle — in a narrow street. He was stabbed in the abdomen and the head, was treated as an absolute emergency and was taken to the Hôpital Édouard-Herriot in the 3rd arrondissement. A 44-year-old woman survived an attempt on her life at the port of Cattolica, in the province of Rimini, on 20 August 2026. Her husband, a 45-year-old man of Albanian origin resident at San Giovanni in Marignano, was detained the same evening on suspicion of attempted murder. According to the investigators' reconstruction, drawn partly from the woman's own account, he suggested in the afternoon that they go out in the car together, saying they would do the shopping. He put the same suggestion to their adult daughter, who declined. Once they reached the port area he suddenly accelerated and steered the car deliberately towards the sea. The car struck a post and went into the water at a point about three metres deep. He was first out of the cabin. His wife, who cannot swim, was initially trapped inside the rapidly flooding car and freed herself only through the rear windscreen. Bystanders came to their aid: two men dived in and, using a rope passed from the quay, reached the couple and brought them to safety. The woman was taken to hospital in Pesaro for checks, badly shaken by what had happened. The man fled as soon as he reached the quayside. Carabinieri from the Riccione company began an immediate search and, after several hours, traced him late that evening near a wooded area not far from his home. He was placed in custody as a suspect in the case.

Police arrested a 29-year-old fairground worker, who runs a cocktail stall in the attractions area, in a caravan next to the fairground later that morning. Officers from the Málaga homicide unit detained him on suspicion of attempted homicide, and the weapon is described as a machete. According to the police investigation the attack followed a confrontation over a woman: the victim, who does not work at the fair, had been trying to court her, and she turned out to be the suspect's partner. Inquiries were continuing to establish exactly what happened.

A 44-year-old Albanian man was stabbed repeatedly in piazzale Napoli at Milano Marittima, a seaside district of Cervia in the province of Ravenna, at around 1am on 16 August 2026, during the Ferragosto weekend. He survived. A police patrol on extraordinary territorial control duty was approached by a passer-by who said he had just witnessed a stabbing. Officers found that a heated argument had broken out in the square between two men, one of whom, armed with a flick knife, struck the other several times. The attacker had disappeared by the time further patrols arrived. The victim, a resident of Forlì who was in the area for leisure, was taken urgently to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena and operated on. The medical report recorded at least five stab wounds — to the abdomen, the chest, the left cheek and the ear — together with rib fractures on his left side. He was given a thirty-day prognosis and remained in hospital at the time of the cited reports. On the late afternoon of 19 August 2026 officers of the Ravenna flying squad traced a Tunisian man in his forties in a public park in the Tagliata area of Cervia and arrested him. At police headquarters he was identified as the man indicated by both the victim and a witness as the attacker. He is accused of attempted murder aggravated by futile motives. No motive has been established, and the knife was not recovered.

A 22-year-old man was shot and wounded in the leg inside the accident and emergency department of the hospital in Prato, Tuscany, at about 4.30pm on Sunday 16 August 2026. A prison officer who fired three shots from his service pistol, hitting him with one, is under investigation for attempted homicide. According to the public prosecutor, the man, a Moroccan national and a former inmate of the Dogaia prison in Prato who had been released in June, had been stopped that afternoon while trying to throw a package containing narcotics into the prison. He was chased by prison officers, fell during the pursuit and was injured, and was taken to hospital for treatment under escort. He was handcuffed and on a trolley in the covered ambulance bay next to triage when he became agitated and tried to flee. The prosecutor said two officers were escorting him and that he was trying to escape while handcuffed inside an enclosed space from which he could not get out. The officers tried to reach him and one of them fired three shots, hitting him once. The prosecutor's stated basis for opening the investigation is that the officer fired in a place from which the detainee could no longer have escaped, and said that recovered CCTV footage shows the sequence of events. The shots caused alarm among patients and staff in the department, which was temporarily closed while the scene was made safe and forensic examinations were carried out. Patients already there were looked after. The officer, who had been in service for 18 months, has been questioned. His defence lawyer says his client's conduct is covered by a clear justification and has asked for the application of a recent security decree amending article 335 of the code of criminal procedure, which provides for a preliminary annotation that avoids automatic entry in the register of suspects where an act performed on duty suggests a ground of justification. A government minister publicly rejected the attempted-homicide framing and said the officer had done his job.

A 60-year-old woman was stabbed three times in the common parts of a building on avenue Georges-Clemenceau in central Nice, a few minutes' walk from the main station, at about 00:34 on Sunday 16 August 2026. She was wounded once in the abdomen and twice in the head and was taken to the Nice university hospital, where her life was reported to be in danger. She survived. A 33-year-old neighbour, hearing shouting in the courtyard, went out onto his balcony and saw a man kneeling over a person lying on the ground and repeating a rapid movement with his left hand. He said he had not seen the knife at that point. He intervened, and reporting credits him with saving the woman's life. He was awarded the city medal by the mayor of Nice at the town hall on Monday 17 August, and told Le Figaro he had acted "by instinct" and "without thinking". An emergency call warned police that the man was armed with a knife, and an anti-crime brigade crew already nearby arrested him at the scene. He was himself injured and was taken to hospital for treatment. The prosecutor's office in Nice confirmed that the man arrested was held in police custody for attempted murder, and that the investigation was assigned to the Nice criminal brigade. No charge in the case is reported in any of the cited sources. Early reporting that the attack involved a rape was subsequently corrected: the prosecutor's office confirmed that the victim was not raped.

A 16-year-old boy was shot and seriously wounded on a public street in Villeurbanne, in the Lyon metropolitan area, at around 1am on Saturday 15 August 2026. He was hit in the abdomen and in one calf and was taken to the Édouard Herriot hospital in Lyon, where he was admitted with his life in danger. According to a police source, two people fled the scene after the shooting, and cartridge cases of 7.62 and 7.65 mm calibre were recovered there. A source close to the case said the attackers were travelling on scooters and were armed with a long gun and a handgun, and placed the shooting in the Grandclément quarter. The Lyon public prosecutor's office said an investigation was opened on 15 August for attempted murder by an organised gang, transport and possession of a weapon, and criminal association, and was entrusted to the Rhône organised and specialised crime division. No arrest had been reported in connection with this shooting at the time of the cited report.

Police said he was being investigated over offences including attempted murder, assault causing actual bodily harm and violence against women. The woman went to Nicosia general hospital after being injured, where doctors found bruising, swelling and haematomas on various parts of her body. A 51-year-old monk was arrested on Friday 7 August 2026 in connection with an attempted murder at a monastery in the Paphos district of Cyprus, in which two people were wounded. His defence argued that the chances of conviction were "almost non-existent" and that he posed no flight risk, while the prosecuting authority asked for him to remain in custody; a decision on continued detention was due on 18 August. On 18 August 2026 the Paphos district court ordered that he remain in custody until 7 October, finding a risk that he could flee before his case is heard and citing the seriousness of the charges. That reporting describes the weapon as a paper cutter for the first time. The court account given on 18 August differs from the same-day reporting of 7 August in two respects, and both versions are set out here rather than reconciled. The later account attributes wounds to the neck and the right hand to the 53-year-old employee alone, and describes the 27-year-old as a novice monk who restrained the accused rather than as a second casualty. It also gives the trigger as the abbot asking for the cell key after inspecting the cell, with the employee present as a technician in case the lock needed changing, rather than as a delegation of priests asking the monk to leave.

Two men were stabbed inside a nightclub on the plaza Salamero, in the centre of Zaragoza, at about 5.30am on 2 August 2026. Both survived. Officers were alerted by several calls to the emergency line reporting a stabbing inside the venue. On arrival they found a man lying at the entrance with two knife wounds, to the abdomen and to a thigh, bleeding heavily. They gave first aid until the ambulance service arrived and took him urgently to hospital. While gathering information, officers found a second victim inside: the venue's security guard, who had a knife wound to one leg and was bleeding significantly, and who was also treated by the emergency services. The attackers had left before police arrived. Over the following weeks investigators analysed the available footage and witness statements and reconstructed the events. They concluded that one of the alleged attackers had stabbed the two victims at least four times in total, that a second had inflicted a head injury on one of them, and that a third had caused minor injuries around the eye of the other. On 20 August 2026 the national police arrested two men aged 24. One, who has nine prior police records, is accused of causing grave bodily harm; the other, who has four, was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide. Both were brought before the duty court the following day, which remanded the alleged author of the attempted homicide in custody and released the second on charges. A third person has been identified and is under investigation for a minor injuries offence.

Secondo la ricostruzione degli investigatori, il gruppo lo avrebbe colpito con pugni, calci e con una pedana in legno e telai di porte, indirizzando i colpi verso testa, nuca, volto, collo, addome e schiena, e proseguendo anche dopo la caduta al suolo, fino alla perdita di coscienza della vittima. Le ferite sono state giudicate guaribili in 52 giorni. L'11 settembre 2026 è stato arrestato un uomo di 42 anni. Il 18 settembre 2026 la polizia ha arrestato a Bari un quindicenne con le accuse di tentato omicidio pluriaggravato in concorso e resistenza a pubblico ufficiale, ritenuto uno dei presunti responsabili dell'aggressione. The prosecutor described the attack as a horrifying act of bloodshed and an insidious assault. His defence lawyer argued that he had been emotionally overwhelmed and that an escalating exceptional situation had led to an entirely uncontrolled act. The accused, who came to Austria from Afghanistan, was described in court as well integrated, in steady employment and without previous convictions.

La primera víctima fue atacada por la espalda de forma súbita y recibió una puñalada en la parte superior de la espalda, cuya gravedad quedó mitigada por la solapa levantada de su chaqueta. Casi al mismo tiempo, el agresor se aproximó por detrás a un segundo transeúnte y le asestó una cuchillada en la zona occipital de la cabeza; fue evacuado en ambulancia al hospital, donde recibió asistencia por las lesiones. Minutos después, en la calle del Párroco Don Emilio Franco, intentó clavar el cuchillo a la altura del corazón a un hombre que caminaba por la vía pública. La víctima bloqueó el golpe con el antebrazo y sufrió una herida superficial en el tórax, además de un trastorno por estrés postraumático como secuela. Esa misma tarde, sobre las 16:45, cuatro agentes de la Policía Nacional acudieron a un domicilio de la calle Peña de la Atalaya alertados por un familiar del sospechoso, que había avisado de su agresividad y temía por su integridad. El sospechoso resultó herido y fue trasladado al hospital, donde permaneció ingresado hasta su posterior traslado a prisión meses más tarde. A 30-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly on Duke Street in Leith, Edinburgh, in November 2025, as she walked to a GP appointment with her young daughter in a pram. Her estranged husband, from whom she had moved away, approached them in the street, told her he had a knife, seized her by the hair and stabbed her about the head and body. Three men who witnessed the attack came to her aid, disarmed him and held him until police arrived. She sustained twelve injuries, including facial scarring and a collapsed lung, and spent four days in hospital. The couple had married abroad about four years before the attack and had moved to London, where their daughter was born. After the relationship broke down the victim and the child moved to Edinburgh, where he tracked them down — which the sentencing judge said indicated a degree of foresight. In August 2026 the man, 26, admitted attempted murder at the High Court in Edinburgh and was jailed for seven and a half years. The judge described a sustained attack on a defenceless victim, said she could have died and that her survival owed to a combination of luck and the intervention of passers-by, and commended those who stepped in. He was also banned from contacting her for life.

The suspect attacked the victim, his ex-partner's adoptive mother, at her home in Geetbets after observing the residence for two days. She sustained more than fifty stab wounds, including at least ten to vital areas, and survived only because of swift medical intervention. A court in Leuven sentenced the suspect to 14 years in prison. After learning of the verdict by text message, he cut off his ankle monitor and fled, but was recaptured the following day by police and the Federal Police's FAST team in his hometown of Aarschot.

On the late afternoon of 12 September 2025, several shots were fired at four men in the Alagoas neighbourhood of Peso da Régua, in the district of Vila Real. Three of the men were admitted to the emergency department of the local health unit for Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. The Republican National Guard and the Judicial Police attended and seized firearms and ammunition from the suspects. A father and son were charged. The father, aged 45, faces three counts of attempted aggravated homicide and the son, aged 22, one count. According to the prosecution, the victims survived only by "sheer luck", and tension between the rival groups persists. The father was arrested the day after the shooting and is under house arrest. The son, arrested in December 2025, is serving an eight-year sentence from a separate conviction. The trial opened at the Vila Real court on 15 September 2026, where both men declined to give evidence.

A man in his early 40s was shot and wounded near the Corduff shopping centre on Blackcourt Avenue in Dublin 15 at about 4.40pm on 26 August 2025. Gardaí believed the shooting was a planned attack, and worked on the theory that the victim and a close associate were chased by the gunman through the Corduff area before shots were discharged. The victim's injuries were not regarded as life-threatening and he later recovered. On 4 September 2026 a woman in her 50s appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged in connection with the shooting, and a man in his 20s, arrested under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007, was due before Dublin District Court the same evening.

A man was beaten and left for dead at a house in Jambes, a sub-municipality of Namur, on 24 July 2025. On 20 August 2026 the court in Namur convicted his neighbour, then 49, of attempted murder and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. According to the case heard at trial, the defendant invited the victim into his home, saying he wanted to discuss something with him. Once the victim was inside, he was severely beaten. The defendant then called the emergency services himself, telling the operator that he thought the man was dying. Responders found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood. The victim survived his injuries but has remained in a semi-vegetative state since the attack, unable to communicate or to eat unaided. The defendant suspected the victim of having sexually abused his partner's six-year-old son. Belgian reporting notes that the victim had been convicted in 2020 of abusing a five-year-old child and given a 37-month suspended sentence, that two further complaints of abuse of minors were made against him in the summer of 2025, and that an investigation into the alleged abuse of the defendant's stepson was under way at the time of the attack. The case attracted considerable attention in and beyond the courtroom.

A man was stabbed at an address in the Møllenberg district of Trondheim at about 1.30pm on Saturday 29 March 2025. He suffered a cut to the heart that caused cardiac arrest, and survived after emergency treatment at St. Olav's hospital. Two other people were stabbed in the same incident: one was struck seven times, sustaining superficial wounds, and another was stabbed once in the upper arm. In August 2026 a man in his 40s was indicted for attempted murder over the attack. He denies criminal liability; his defence counsel says he acted in self-defence.

Three young men were convicted of attempted murder by the Frankfurt regional court on 24 September 2026 over an attack on a police car and the officers inside it on New Year's Eve 2024. That evening a group of ten to fifteen people was out in the Nordwestzentrum district of Frankfurt. The court found that their aim was to use the noise and activity of New Year's Eve as cover for attacking police officers. The group first gathered in a park, where they made Molotov cocktails and set off fireworks, then moved shortly after 23:00 to a square in the Nordwestzentrum. From a footbridge they threw fireworks and other incendiary devices at a passing police car. At 23:16 the group moved to a nearby pedestrian crossing, where an electric scooter 120cm long and weighing 29.25kg was standing. The court found that they agreed to drop it only once a car was close to the bridge, wanting to cause the greatest possible damage. When they heard sirens, a car carrying five officers approached at 85km/h. On a command two of the group threw bottles, and moments later a third threw the scooter. The scooter struck the car beside the interior mirror. The windscreen shattered but was held together by a safety film. The driver suffered a head injury and, despite poor visibility, managed to brake and bring the car to a stop at a bus stop. Two of the officers were injured. The judge called the outcome the best case that could have occurred, and said tests and calculations had shown the driver would have been killed had the scooter been released two milliseconds earlier. The court imposed seven years' imprisonment on the man who threw the scooter, six years on another defendant and four years and ten months on the one it found had coordinated the group at the scene. The sentences went beyond what the prosecution had sought. All three were sentenced under juvenile criminal law, having been 16, 17 and 19 at the time of the offence.

A young woman was attacked in Temse, East Flanders, on Friday 19 January 2024. According to the East Flanders public prosecutor's office she had set off on her scooter from Temse railway station when a man, also on a scooter, followed her and pushed her off it. He then punched her repeatedly in the face and seized her by the throat. She broke free, fled to a nearby house and the police were called. The attacker fled and was not traced at the time. An appeal for information produced 34 tips, and DNA traces recovered at the scene were examined. The resulting profile matched that of a man who had been identified in a separate investigation, and he was arrested on 22 December 2025 and brought before an investigating magistrate the following day. The prosecution treats the Temse attack as attempted manslaughter. The suspect, a 40-year-old man, is due to answer for it before the correctional court in Dendermonde on 1 September 2026, alongside a separate charge arising from the investigation in which he was first identified.
