Three people were injured in an attack at a service station on via Martiri di Cervarolo, in the Buco del Signore district of Reggio Emilia, on the evening of Sunday 27 September 2026. All three were taken urgently to the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova and none was in a life-threatening condition; the local health authority described their injuries as orthopaedic trauma. According to the health authority, a 66-year-old woman was attacked first, with a screwdriver, and was due to undergo surgery. Two people who came to her aid were also injured: a 49-year-old man, operated on overnight and admitted to a general ward, and a 24-year-old woman, who was expected to be discharged the same day. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was arrested an hour after the attack and held in custody pending a validation hearing. He is to answer for aggravated attempted homicide. Police, coordinated by the public prosecutor's office, were examining his reported drug dependency; the health authority said he had recently begun treatment at the Reggio Emilia mental health centre, and he had a previous complaint against him from April for threats and criminal damage.
