An 85-year-old woman was strangled in her sleep at her home on via Nicotera in Pellezzano, in the province of Salerno, during the night of 28 September 2026. According to an initial reconstruction by investigators, she was killed in the house she shared with her 53-year-old son. The son called the emergency number himself and reported what he had done. Carabinieri traced and identified him as he wandered on foot through the streets of Pellezzano, and he was detained. Investigators attributed the killing to long-standing family disputes. The municipal administration said it had immediately activated the town's social services to provide support and assistance to those involved.

Three people were injured in an attack at a service station on via Martiri di Cervarolo, in the Buco del Signore district of Reggio Emilia, on the evening of Sunday 27 September 2026. All three were taken urgently to the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova and none was in a life-threatening condition; the local health authority described their injuries as orthopaedic trauma. According to the health authority, a 66-year-old woman was attacked first, with a screwdriver, and was due to undergo surgery. Two people who came to her aid were also injured: a 49-year-old man, operated on overnight and admitted to a general ward, and a 24-year-old woman, who was expected to be discharged the same day. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was arrested an hour after the attack and held in custody pending a validation hearing. He is to answer for aggravated attempted homicide. Police, coordinated by the public prosecutor's office, were examining his reported drug dependency; the health authority said he had recently begun treatment at the Reggio Emilia mental health centre, and he had a previous complaint against him from April for threats and criminal damage.

A Tunisian man died on 25 September 2026 after being stabbed at the height of an argument during the preceding night in the Golosine district of Verona. Ambulance crews took him in a very serious condition to the Borgo Trento hospital, where he died shortly afterwards of the severity of his injuries. On a first reconstruction, reported in conditional terms, the victim is said to have been involved in a dispute with a group of Polish nationals described as drivers of the golf carts that carry tourists around the city centre. The suspected killer was detained and was being held at police headquarters in Verona. No charge had been confirmed at the time of reporting.

The dismembered body of a 39-year-old man was found on the evening of Thursday 24 September 2026 in an apartment in via Gulli, in the Borgo Vittoria district of Turin. He was from Chivasso, in the province of Turin. According to the prosecution's account he was killed by blows from a club and by stab wounds. The investigation began with a call to the emergency number from the mother of a 26-year-old man, who told police in distress that her son had confessed to having badly hurt someone. On the direction of the Turin public prosecutor's office, police placed three people under a holding order. A man is suspected of homicide and of concealment of a corpse. Two women, one of them the tenant of the apartment where the body was found, are suspected of aiding an offender and of joint participation in the concealment of the corpse. The tenant, a 47-year-old teacher, had not appeared at the school where she worked since the start of the academic year, and colleagues had been asking for weeks where she was. Investigators are still working to establish whether the victim was killed in the apartment or brought there already dead. One line of inquiry concerns a drug debt. The prosecutor's office said it would put its requests on the validation of the holding order and on the detention of those held to the judge for preliminary investigations, and the validation hearing was set for the afternoon of 26 September 2026.

A man was stabbed outside the Cucine Popolari, a long-established soup kitchen in Padua, on the afternoon of Tuesday 15 September 2026. He was found by officers with knife wounds to his left flank, hands and arms, and was taken by ambulance to the Ospedale Civile, where he underwent emergency surgery. Investigators described one very deep wound to the left flank as potentially damaging to vital organs, with more serious consequences avoided only by chance. Officers sealed off the nearby Giardini dell'Arena, where one of the suspects had fled and was trying to hide among the people there wearing a dark sweatshirt and sunglasses. A 25-year-old Egyptian asylum seeker was stopped, taken to police headquarters for identification, then arrested for attempted homicide and taken to the Padua prison. Investigators found the attack was not an isolated event but part of a series of threats and earlier episodes of violence. That evening officers traced a second Egyptian man, aged 27, identified as having taken part in the assault. He was found with three grams of hashish and was reported to the authorities. The Questore of Padua ordered his transfer to a detention centre in Milan and began proceedings to revoke the arrested man's residence permit.

A 97-year-old woman with several illnesses was killed at her home in Villatora, a frazione of Saonara in the province of Padua, on 13 September 2026. She lived with and was cared for by her daughter and her 70-year-old son-in-law, and the two were alone in the house at the time. According to the first reports, the son-in-law suffocated her by placing a bag over her head after she had expressed a medical need, then telephoned the emergency number himself to say what he had done. The operator kept him on the line until Carabinieri arrived and found her dead in her bedroom. The man linked the act to a family situation made difficult by her deteriorating health, an account investigators are to verify. He was arrested and taken to prison in Padua and placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

A man was stabbed in the throat under the porticoes of piazza Garibaldi in Novara, by the city's railway station, on 10 September 2026. Police were alerted to a man wounded in the neck by a bladed weapon and established that the victim had been struck in the throat at the culmination of a quarrel that officers described as being over trivial matters. The blow lacerated his jugular vein, and the wound was judged so serious that the officers took him to hospital themselves. He survived. His attacker fled the scene immediately on an electric scooter. The following day the mobile squad identified the attacker from CCTV footage and interviews with people informed of the events, and submitted a report to the prosecutor asking for a precautionary measure to be considered. The measure was granted by an order issued on the evening of 28 September. On 29 September the suspect, a 25-year-old man of no fixed abode with previous convictions, was located by investigators in the area of Vercelli railway station and arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He was found in possession of 29.2 grams of hashish and reported at liberty for a separate offence of possession for the purpose of dealing. He was taken into custody at the disposal of the judicial authority.

A 79-year-old woman was found dead in her flat in Moncalieri, a comune bordering Turin, on 8 September 2026. Neighbours raised the alarm after noticing a strong smell coming from the address; according to the reporting she had been dead for some days. She had a wound to the head, and an iron pipe lay a few metres from her body, which investigators believe may have been the weapon. Her brother was found dead in the same flat, having hanged himself; his body had been found in the same flat on the evening of 8 September, but the carabinieri did not release the news until the following day. Inside the flat, stuck to a wardrobe, was a note in which he confessed to having killed her. The carabinieri opened an investigation to reconstruct what had happened. Because the man is dead, no prosecution can follow, and the motive has not been established.

Secondo la prima ricostruzione degli inquirenti, l'ex compagno le avrebbe teso un agguato bloccandola nel garage di casa a Firenze, l'avrebbe poi chiusa nel bagagliaio dell'auto per raggiungere l'autostrada A1 e l'avrebbe infine lanciata dal viadotto Alteta, al bivio tra la Panoramica e la Direttissima. L'uomo, di 36 anni, si è poi tolto la vita gettandosi dallo stesso viadotto. La donna, che aveva con sé un telefono cellulare rimasto nel bagagliaio, avrebbe chiamato il 112 e un amico per chiedere aiuto; accortosi del telefono, l'uomo avrebbe fermato l'auto e glielo avrebbe strappato. La segnalazione ha fatto scattare le ricerche dell'auto: gli agenti della polizia stradale hanno trovato il veicolo fermo sulla corsia d'emergenza e i due corpi sotto il viadotto. Le indagini, coordinate dalla procura e condotte dalla squadra mobile di Firenze, stanno ricostruendo se la donna sia stata uccisa prima di essere gettata dal viadotto. La relazione tra i due era terminata da poco tempo.

Three members of the same family were found dead with gunshot wounds in the bedroom of their flat in via dell'Antracite, in the Pietralata quarter of Rome, on the morning of 31 August 2026. The dead were a 42-year-old man, his 41-year-old wife and their 5-year-old daughter, who had a disability. The family dog was also found dead. The alarm was raised by a relative who had been unable to make contact with the family. Ambulance crews, the fire brigade and carabinieri attended at about 1pm. Investigators' leading hypothesis is that the man killed his wife and daughter and then himself. The pistol used was recovered in the flat and was legally held by him, and notes were found in which the act was announced; these were being examined. The investigation was continuing at the time of the cited report.

A 49-year-old man was fatally stabbed at Colico, in the province of Lecco, on 29 August 2026. An 83-year-old man, his father, was arrested over the killing. According to the reconstruction by the public prosecutor's office and the carabinieri, the two men lived together and the elder attacked his son with a kitchen knife during an argument. The victim was airlifted by rescuers to the San Gerardo hospital in Monza, already in a desperate condition, and died there.

A 75-year-old woman was found burned to death in her home in Gragnano, in the province of Naples, on the afternoon of 28 August 2026. She lived at the address with her daughter. Her daughter was detained the following day by order of the Torre Annunziata public prosecutor's office, at the end of an interrogation from which the prosecutors said serious indications of guilt had emerged. She is accused of voluntary homicide and attempted arson. According to the early findings of the carabinieri, the daughter — described in the reporting as probably suffering from psychiatric problems — tried to set the house alight by cutting the gas pipe, and the fire that resulted killed her mother. The detention order states that she gave her mother no assistance and merely watched as the flames consumed her, although she could have dragged her clear and helped her. Carabinieri noted marks consistent with a struggle on the daughter's arm, and she acknowledged having had several arguments with her mother, the most recent that morning. The fire was extinguished by a neighbour and a passer-by who saw the flames. The body was placed at the disposal of the authorities and the home was placed under judicial seal.

A 19-year-old man was left in a serious condition in Turin on the afternoon of 26 August 2026 after being struck by a car in lungo Po Antonelli, in the Vanchiglietta district near the city centre. According to the reporting, two young men on an electric scooter snatched a gold necklace from a 39-year-old Turin resident. Rather than calling the emergency services, he got into his car, chased them and rammed them at speed, sending them off the road. An eyewitness quoted by another newspaper said the driver had acted deliberately; that account is a witness statement and not a judicial finding. One of the two riders, aged 19, was left unconscious at the scene after the collision and was taken to the CTO hospital, where he was intubated and remained in a serious condition. The second rider, aged 17, managed to get up and get away after being beaten by the driver. The driver, aged 39 and with no prior record, was placed in police detention on suspicion of attempted homicide. The two riders were reported to face arrest for robbery.

A 44-year-old woman survived an attempt on her life at the port of Cattolica, in the province of Rimini, on 20 August 2026. Her husband, a 45-year-old man of Albanian origin resident at San Giovanni in Marignano, was detained the same evening on suspicion of attempted murder. According to the investigators' reconstruction, drawn partly from the woman's own account, he suggested in the afternoon that they go out in the car together, saying they would do the shopping. He put the same suggestion to their adult daughter, who declined. Once they reached the port area he suddenly accelerated and steered the car deliberately towards the sea. The car struck a post and went into the water at a point about three metres deep. He was first out of the cabin. His wife, who cannot swim, was initially trapped inside the rapidly flooding car and freed herself only through the rear windscreen. Bystanders came to their aid: two men dived in and, using a rope passed from the quay, reached the couple and brought them to safety. The woman was taken to hospital in Pesaro for checks, badly shaken by what had happened. The man fled as soon as he reached the quayside. Carabinieri from the Riccione company began an immediate search and, after several hours, traced him late that evening near a wooded area not far from his home. He was placed in custody as a suspect in the case.

A 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her home in Colleferro, in the metropolitan area of Rome, at about 3.30pm on 18 August 2026. The victim was a Polish national. Police stopped her husband a short distance from the house after their daughter telephoned. He admitted the killing, telling officers he had killed his wife. He is a foreign national who had lived in Italy for twenty years, and the couple had five children together. According to the cited reports one of the children witnessed the killing. A 46-year-old woman died during the night of 16 to 17 August 2026 in the province of Cosenza, in Calabria, from a beating she had suffered. Doctors at the hospital in Trebisacce found her body outside the accident and emergency entrance, and nothing could be done for her. Investigators focused on her partner, a 42-year-old Albanian national, who had made himself unreachable. Carabinieri intercepted him at the port of Bari, where he was about to depart. A 44-year-old Albanian man was stabbed repeatedly in piazzale Napoli at Milano Marittima, a seaside district of Cervia in the province of Ravenna, at around 1am on 16 August 2026, during the Ferragosto weekend. He survived. A police patrol on extraordinary territorial control duty was approached by a passer-by who said he had just witnessed a stabbing. Officers found that a heated argument had broken out in the square between two men, one of whom, armed with a flick knife, struck the other several times. The attacker had disappeared by the time further patrols arrived. The victim, a resident of Forlì who was in the area for leisure, was taken urgently to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena and operated on. The medical report recorded at least five stab wounds — to the abdomen, the chest, the left cheek and the ear — together with rib fractures on his left side. He was given a thirty-day prognosis and remained in hospital at the time of the cited reports. On the late afternoon of 19 August 2026 officers of the Ravenna flying squad traced a Tunisian man in his forties in a public park in the Tagliata area of Cervia and arrested him. At police headquarters he was identified as the man indicated by both the victim and a witness as the attacker. He is accused of attempted murder aggravated by futile motives. No motive has been established, and the knife was not recovered.

A 39-year-old woman was killed at her home in Camponogara, in the province of Venice, and her body was found there on the evening of Sunday 16 August 2026. Italian reporting describes the killing as a femicide and states that she was strangled. Her former partner, a 43-year-old man from the neighbouring town of Dolo, was found hanged at his own home the same evening. Investigators treat his death as suicide following the killing, and no proceedings against him are possible. The couple had separated, and the relationship had a documented history of violence. In April 2026 he had already attempted to strangle her; she reported him to the police with a medical certificate, and in June the Questore of Venice issued a formal warning against him. Investigators kept the detailed sequence of events confidential. The first autopsy findings, reported on 21 August 2026, confirmed that she was strangled: the hyoid bone of her neck was fractured, consistent with strong pressure applied to the throat. Later reporting also established that the man had been the subject of complaints by three other women with whom he had had relationships, in 2002, 2010 and 2024. Two of those complainants were hospitalised, with prognoses of twenty-five and ten days. All three complaints were withdrawn and the resulting proceedings were shelved. The woman killed in August 2026 was the only one of the four who did not withdraw her complaint.

A 22-year-old man was shot and wounded in the leg inside the accident and emergency department of the hospital in Prato, Tuscany, at about 4.30pm on Sunday 16 August 2026. A prison officer who fired three shots from his service pistol, hitting him with one, is under investigation for attempted homicide. According to the public prosecutor, the man, a Moroccan national and a former inmate of the Dogaia prison in Prato who had been released in June, had been stopped that afternoon while trying to throw a package containing narcotics into the prison. He was chased by prison officers, fell during the pursuit and was injured, and was taken to hospital for treatment under escort. He was handcuffed and on a trolley in the covered ambulance bay next to triage when he became agitated and tried to flee. The prosecutor said two officers were escorting him and that he was trying to escape while handcuffed inside an enclosed space from which he could not get out. The officers tried to reach him and one of them fired three shots, hitting him once. The prosecutor's stated basis for opening the investigation is that the officer fired in a place from which the detainee could no longer have escaped, and said that recovered CCTV footage shows the sequence of events. The shots caused alarm among patients and staff in the department, which was temporarily closed while the scene was made safe and forensic examinations were carried out. Patients already there were looked after. The officer, who had been in service for 18 months, has been questioned. His defence lawyer says his client's conduct is covered by a clear justification and has asked for the application of a recent security decree amending article 335 of the code of criminal procedure, which provides for a preliminary annotation that avoids automatic entry in the register of suspects where an act performed on duty suggests a ground of justification. A government minister publicly rejected the attempted-homicide framing and said the officer had done his job.

A 45-year-old man was found dead in the street in the ZEN quarter of Palermo on 15 August 2026. His body was lying in via Costante Girardengo, and the Carabinieri were alerted by a telephone call. According to an initial reconstruction, the victim had surprised thieves who were rummaging through garages belonging to the public housing blocks. A struggle followed and he was struck in the face, reportedly with a screwdriver. A forensic pathologist attended the scene to establish the cause of death, and several people were called to the Carabinieri barracks to help reconstruct what had happened. No arrest had been reported at the time of the cited report.

An 18-year-old man died in Trani, in Apulia, in the early hours of 13 August 2026 after being stabbed during a brawl. He was struck three times, including a wound to the back, shortly after midnight in the pinetina area of via Andria, where families with children were also present. He was taken first to a medical post in Trani and then to the hospital in Bisceglie, where he died soon afterwards of his injuries. The victim, who lived in nearby Andria, had been at a barbecue with friends in an area where young people had gathered to watch a solar eclipse. According to the carabinieri's initial reconstruction, a second group arrived, an argument escalated into punches and kicks, and the stabbing followed. Investigators examined surveillance camera footage of the fight and interviewed the young people from both groups. A 17-year-old is under investigation for the homicide. He turned himself in after learning that the victim had died and, in the carabinieri barracks in Trani, admitted inflicting the wounds while maintaining that he had been reacting to an assault. His lawyer said the dispute between the two had arisen over a shared interest in a girl. The knife used, legally held and bought from a gun shop, had not been recovered. The investigation is coordinated by the Trani public prosecutor's office and the juvenile prosecutor's office in Bari.

Six cyclists were struck by a car shortly before 10:00 on 9 August 2026 near Lanzo Torinese, in the Turin metropolitan area, on the road towards Coassolo. The incident followed a roadside argument described by reporters as being over a trivial matter. After the first impact the driver is reported to have turned the car around and driven at the group a second time. All six cyclists survived. Four were injured with various trauma and fractures: two were airlifted to the CTO hospital and two were taken to the Giovanni Bosco hospital. The driver, a 73-year-old man, presented himself to the carabinieri and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The public prosecutor placed him under house arrest.

A 32-year-old man was found killed on the evening of 5 August 2026 in a holding cell at the La Dogaia prison in Prato, Tuscany, after a fight between inmates. He was held in the wing reserved for sex offenders, sharing the cell with three other prisoners. A post-mortem inspection found a head injury caused by a blunt object and bleeding from the nose, along with bruising inside the upper lip and a laceration to the left side of the forehead. The Prato public prosecutor's office is investigating the death as manslaughter arising from an intentional assault (omicidio preterintenzionale). The inquiry, led by prosecutors and carried out by the prison police and the Prato flying squad, is working to reconstruct events, identify who caused the death, and establish the motive for the fight. A 32-year-old Pakistani man was found dead in the boot of his own car a few kilometres from the informal settlement at Borgo Mezzanone, about ten kilometres from Foggia in Puglia, on the afternoon of Saturday 22 August 2026. He had last been seen on the evening of 4 August after finishing work and was reported missing on 7 August. The victim was an agricultural day labourer who had been granted special-protection residency status and lived in the settlement on the grounds of a former military airfield. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, which reporting treated as consistent with death at or near the time of his disappearance. The prosecutor's office in Foggia opened a file for murder against persons unknown and ordered a post-mortem examination to establish the cause and date of death. No suspect had been identified at the time of the cited reports. The mayor of the commune, speaking about the victim's circumstances, said he had accepted everything in order to pay off the debt he had incurred to migrate, including living in the shanty town that became first his prison and then his grave.

A 39-year-old man shot two members of his family at dawn on 23 July 2026 in the hinterland of Cagliari, in Sardinia. At around 05:45 the carabinieri operations room in Quartu Sant'Elena was alerted by the emergency medical service to a 47-year-old woman, the suspect's wife, who had been shot in the head in the coastal village of Solanas; the gunman left the scene by car. A second call at about 06:10 reported a further shooting in the Margine Rosso district of Quartu Sant'Elena, where his 42-year-old brother was found dead at their parents' home, killed by a gunshot to the torso. At about 06:15 the suspect, a Cagliari man who held firearms legally, presented himself at a carabinieri barracks and stated that he had shot his wife and his brother. Investigators' initial reconstruction points to family conflict as the motive. The woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She was treated in the intensive care unit of the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari for her head wounds from 23 July, and died on 17 August 2026, 25 days after the attack.

According to the account carabinieri from Lanusei consider most likely, he drove his car to the ground and deliberately struck a 21-year-old woman with whom he had previously had a relationship, throwing her violently against a planter. She was airlifted to hospital in Cagliari with trauma to both legs and survived. The woman's younger brother, a minor, and her current boyfriend were at the ground and gave chase. When they caught up with the car, the brother is reported to have opened the driver's door and a struggle followed in which the driver was stabbed several times. Emergency medical crews, including a helicopter, could not save him and he died about ten minutes after they reached him. Both suspects fled; the boyfriend was traced and questioned the same evening, and investigators believe the knife was his although he is not thought to have struck the blows. The minor had not been located, and searches of both homes had been carried out. Witnesses gave carabinieri and the prosecutor two versions of events, and the sequence remains under investigation.

A 54-year-old man was beaten to death in the car park of viale Tritone at Pinarella di Cervia, on the Ravenna coast, during the night of 18–19 July 2026. He was living in a camper van parked there. According to the investigators' reconstruction, he was confronted in the car park near his camper van, tried to get away, and was caught and struck repeatedly with kicks and punches to the head and chest, including after he was already on the ground. He managed to move a few metres before collapsing beside the tyre of a lorry. Carabinieri who had been called to the area on the morning of 19 July over damage to a nearby camper van found him lying seriously injured with clear signs of the beating. He was taken to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena, where he died of his injuries on 22 July. On 7 August 2026 four young people aged between 19 and 23, from the Forlì area, were detained and taken to prison, accused of aggravated joint homicide committed for futile motives. Investigators reached them through footage from public and private CCTV cameras and from a lorry's dash cam, cross-checked with police databases, witness statements, wiretaps and surveillance. No prior connection between the group and the victim has emerged, and the motive is still to be established. The investigation, coordinated by the Ravenna prosecutor's office, is not concluded. The municipality has said it intends to join any trial as a civil party.

A 42-year-old man died on the morning of 19 July 2026 in via Svevo, in the Pilastro district of Bologna, during a police intervention prompted by reports of a man causing a disturbance in a garage. Whether the compression occurred before death or during attempted resuscitation has not been established, and no cause of death has been formally certified. The victim's relatives have publicly alleged that he was beaten and killed, and a parliamentary inquiry has been announced.

Secondo la ricostruzione degli investigatori, il gruppo lo avrebbe colpito con pugni, calci e con una pedana in legno e telai di porte, indirizzando i colpi verso testa, nuca, volto, collo, addome e schiena, e proseguendo anche dopo la caduta al suolo, fino alla perdita di coscienza della vittima. Le ferite sono state giudicate guaribili in 52 giorni. L'11 settembre 2026 è stato arrestato un uomo di 42 anni. Il 18 settembre 2026 la polizia ha arrestato a Bari un quindicenne con le accuse di tentato omicidio pluriaggravato in concorso e resistenza a pubblico ufficiale, ritenuto uno dei presunti responsabili dell'aggressione. La ricostruzione si è basata in buona parte sulle immagini delle telecamere di videosorveglianza della zona. A 20-year-old man was shot in the chest and killed at dawn on 7 April 2026 as he walked home from work in the Ponticelli district of Naples. He had no connection to organised crime. On the account reconstructed by the investigating carabinieri, coordinated by the anti-mafia prosecutors and the juvenile prosecutors, the fatal shot was fired by a 23-year-old acquaintance of the victim. Shortly beforehand the suspect, together with a 17-year-old, had been involved in a firefight against a rival group who had come into the district in a dark SUV. On 26 September 2026 the Court of Cassation upheld an appeal by his lawyers and annulled the charge of intentional homicide, remitting that head of accusation to the court that reviews precautionary measures for re-decision. The firearms counts were not affected.

A 69-year-old man was killed at Cutro, in the province of Crotone, on 21 September 2024, according to the case brought against his wife and their son. His body has never been found; investigators believe it was thrown into the waters of the river Tacina, in the locality of Steccato di Cutro. On 28 September 2024 his wife went to the carabinieri station at Cutro to report him missing, saying he had disappeared a week earlier, on 21 September. From that point he appeared to have vanished. Carabinieri investigated for a full year, using telephone and environmental intercepts on several of the victim's relatives and interviewing many people, until evidence began to emerge that led them to believe his wife and their son were involved in his killing on that date. Both were entered on the register of suspects in December 2025. Carabinieri RIS officers and police divers from Messina carried out several searches to recover the body, which has not been located. Investigators documented what they describe as repeated attempts by the pair to divert the inquiry: reporting the disappearance a week after it was said to have happened, agreeing between themselves on the accounts they would give to investigators, buying several litres of bleach in order, according to the accusation, to clean the scene, and giving contradictory statements that were found on checking to be untrue. On 30 September 2026 carabinieri arrested the victim's wife, aged 60, and their son, aged 28, both from Cutro, executing an order of pre-trial detention in prison issued by the investigating judge of Crotone at the request of the local public prosecutor. Both are accused of homicide and of concealing a corpse, acting jointly.

A 14-year-old boy from the province of Vicenza died in January 2024 of a femoral osteosarcoma that his parents had declined to have treated by conventional medicine. His decline lasted roughly two years. Both parents are on trial before the Corte d'Assise in Vicenza, charged with intentional homicide with indirect intent. A 26-year-old woman was killed at her home in Rescaldina, in the Metropolitan City of Milan, on 11 January 2022, and her body was dismembered. The man convicted of the killing is her former partner, a former bank employee. On 16 September 2026 the Milan appeal assize court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the third time on appeal, in what was the sixth set of proceedings in the case overall. The court again found that the killing was premeditated. The judgment is not final. A further appeal to the Court of Cassation is expected.

On 28 April 2021 three robbers entered a jeweller's shop in Grinzane Cavour, in the province of Cuneo. The jeweller shot and killed two of them and wounded the third. He was finally convicted of the double homicide and of the attempted murder of the third robber and sentenced to 14 years and 9 months' imprisonment, the courts having ruled out that he acted in lawful self-defence. In September 2026 the Supervisory Court of Turin rejected his request to defer the execution of his sentence, or alternatively to serve it under house arrest, while a petition for a pardon lodged with the President of the Republic by his wife is pending. The court held that the decision on clemency belongs exclusively to the Head of State and that the judiciary should not anticipate it, while acknowledging that the reaction of a person unjustly attacked cannot be measured with precision. He remains in prison at Bollate. On 17 September 2026 a further request to defer the execution of his sentence was ruled inadmissible, and he remains in custody while the pardon petition is pending.

A woman who worked as a nurse and as a prostitute was beaten and killed with a drill in a ground-floor dwelling in vico Indoratori, in the historic centre of Genoa, in 1995. No source read for this record gives the day or month of the killing, so the date is recorded at year precision. The case remained unsolved for three decades. A car body repairman was eventually identified as a suspect and prosecuted, but he has remained at liberty throughout: the investigating judge, the review court and the Court of Cassation all rejected the prosecution's applications to arrest him. He is being tried by abbreviated procedure, which carries a sentence reduction of up to a third on conviction. DNA evidence is the central contested issue. At the closing argument on 8 September 2026 the prosecutor asked for a 30-year sentence, arguing that the strength of the genetic match left no realistic alternative explanation, and told the court that the killer had caused fear and anguish to the dying victim. A hearing for any replies and for the verdict was reserved for October 2026.
