A 97-year-old woman with several illnesses was killed at her home in Villatora, a frazione of Saonara in the province of Padua, on 13 September 2026. She lived with and was cared for by her daughter and her 70-year-old son-in-law, and the two were alone in the house at the time. According to the first reports, the son-in-law suffocated her by placing a bag over her head after she had expressed a medical need, then telephoned the emergency number himself to say what he had done.
