A man of about 25 was stabbed in the chest in the Jardim do Cais do Sodré, next to a kiosk, in Lisbon at 12.16pm on 16 August 2026. According to the PSP he was left unconscious at the scene. He was treated and taken to the Hospital de São José in a condition described as serious, but did not survive his injuries; his death was confirmed at 1.12pm. The suspect fled towards Terreiro do Paço. No arrest was reported at the time of the cited report. The Polícia Judiciária is investigating. The investigation has the assistance of a single witness, who was to be questioned shortly, and CCTV installed at the location may be essential to establishing the circumstances of the killing. On 20 August 2026 it was reported that the PSP, through its Lisbon Metropolitan Command, had opened an internal inquiry into accusations that officers refused to respond to the killing. A witness to the attack made the accusation on social media. Disciplinary proceedings may follow.
