On 30 August 2026 police and emergency services in Varna were called to a home where a one-year-old child had been found unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, and an investigation was opened immediately to establish the cause and circumstances of the death. A court-ordered forensic post-mortem concluded that the child had been the victim of a serious criminal act. The investigation identified a 33-year-old woman living at the address, who was close to the child's family. She was formally accused of the murder of a minor and detained by order of the supervising prosecutor, and the district court subsequently granted the prosecution's application to remand her in custody. Work to document the offence continues under prosecutorial supervision.

Police in the Plovdiv region are investigating the killing of a 21-year-old man from the village of Nayden Gerovo, whose dismembered body was found in a bag near a farm at Saedinenie after being concealed there for several days. A 63-year-old former police officer who worked as a shepherd on the farm has been detained at the Trud district police station, and pre-trial proceedings have been opened. On 21 August 2026 the Plovdiv District Court ordered that the former police officer remain in custody. According to the prosecution he shot the victim with an illegal hunting rifle and then dismembered the body and concealed it in sacks. His defence argues that he acted in unavoidable self-defence, saying the victim attacked him with an axe on the night in question. At the hearing the accused himself asked to be kept in custody, saying he feared reprisals against himself and his farm.

A man was killed in the early hours of 9 August 2026 in a private dwelling in the Sun House complex, in the Cholakova Cheshma locality near the village of Kosharitsa, in Nesebar municipality on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. The victim was a Ukrainian national living in Bulgaria with refugee status. He died at around 3:00 a.m. from a throat wound that caused massive blood loss, and medical staff confirmed his death at the scene. Police reported that the killing followed a bout of drinking and a quarrel between two Ukrainian men. The victim's body was found by a third Ukrainian resident of the dwelling, who had been in the bathroom while the attack took place. The suspect, a Ukrainian citizen living in Sofia, was detained by Burgas regional police near Kableshkovo as he drove away in a car registered in Sofia. An autopsy was ordered at the forensic medicine department of the Burgas University Hospital.

A 37-year-old man died on 4 August 2026 after being found with visible signs of violence at the foot of Youth Hill (Mladezhki halm) in Plovdiv. The emergency call was made to 112 at around 17:20 that day, and he died several hours later in hospital. The Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death as an intentional homicide, and forensic specialists are carrying out active work to establish the facts. On 6 August 2026 it was reported that five juveniles — three girls and two boys — had been charged with intentional murder committed in a particularly torturous manner, with special cruelty, and on hooliganism and sexual motives. According to police, the victim had been contacted online by a 17-year-old girl who told him she was 15 and arranged a meeting; when he arrived at Youth Hill he was met instead by a group of around ten young people. A post-mortem examination found lacerations to the lungs and kidneys and a traumatic brain injury. On 13 August 2026 the appellate court upheld the first-instance ruling keeping all five detained teenagers in custody. The victim was buried the following day in Krichim, his home town, where the funeral service was led by the Metropolitan of Plovdiv and the municipality said residents were calling for tougher sentences for serious crimes committed by minors. On 27 August 2026 the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office charged and detained three more juveniles — two aged 17 and one aged 15 — over the same killing, bringing the total number of accused to eight, six boys and two girls. Prosecutors said the three had also struck the victim with their hands and feet, and cited witness statements, video recordings and forensic analysis that found human blood on their clothing. All three gave statements in the presence of their lawyers and were held for up to 48 hours pending a custody application to the court.

A two-month-old boy died in the village of Zhelyazno, in Plovdiv Province, with his death reported to the authorities on 26 February 2026. His father, a 28-year-old man from the same village, was charged with the intentional murder of the infant, who was described in the indictment as having been in a helpless state. The defendant appeared before the Plovdiv Regional Court on 29 July 2026 for a preparatory hearing. He entered the courtroom with his head bowed and said nothing as he was escorted by guards. The hearing was adjourned to 9 September 2026 because some of the injured parties had not been summoned.

A 52-year-old man died in Plovdiv after being attacked on the evening of 19 September 2025 at the city's "Yug" bus station, where he was waiting for a coach to Bursa. According to the prosecution he encountered the suspect, who was in the area with a companion, and asked why they had robbed him earlier that day; the suspect then took a wooden stake and attacked him. The two chased each other through the bus station exchanging insults before the suspect struck the victim five times, one of the blows to the head, breaking the stake. A forensic medical examination found severe craniocerebral trauma, and the victim died on 22 September 2025. The suspect, a Plovdiv man with prior convictions, is on trial for the killing before the District Court. On 27 August 2026 the court admitted three civil claims brought by the victim's relatives totalling 90,000 euros, to be heard together with the criminal case. The defence asked for the case to be returned to the prosecutor's office, arguing that the indictment failed to record that the victim had initiated the conflict; the judge refused, and the trial was set to continue on 12 October with the examination of witnesses.

On 25 August 2022 two serving Bulgarian police officers were killed at the "Trapezitsa" roundabout in Burgas when the bus they were attempting to stop struck their patrol car. The vehicle, carrying migrants, had been pursued by border police from a checkpoint on the Malko Tarnovo–Burgas road after twice failing to stop; at an earlier checkpoint an officer had to jump onto the crash barrier to avoid being run down. The officers blocked the road with their patrol car at the roundabout, but the bus neither braked nor slowed, dragging the car through metal barriers and several kiosks before coming to rest on grass. The court heard that the injuries were incompatible with survival. The driver, a Syrian national accused of smuggling migrants, was convicted of the killings. A district court sentenced him to 20 years in February 2025; following an appeal by the prosecution, which regarded that sentence as disproportionate to the gravity of the offence, the appellate court replaced it with life imprisonment. His defence maintains the deaths were caused by negligence rather than intent and has said it will appeal to the Supreme Court of Cassation.
