    A male anaesthetist was killed in his home in Sector 3 of Bucharest on the evening of Tuesday 31 March 2026. According to investigators, a 39-year-old woman was in his flat at about 9pm and attacked him with a knife. He suffered multiple wounds, including a chest wound that damaged his heart. After the attack the woman is said to have taken the victim's telephone and set fire to the flat using flammable substances and materials before leaving. Firefighters put out the blaze and brought the victim out of the property; paramedics attempted resuscitation but pronounced him dead. The woman, described as the victim's cleaner, was identified after five days of investigation and found on 5 April at her home in the commune of Ștefăneștii de Jos, Ilfov county. She was detained and subsequently arrested, and is under investigation for murder. On 22 August 2026 police arrested an alleged accomplice, a 47-year-old man who was the subject of national and international arrest notices. He was stopped in traffic in Bucharest, taken to the central criminal investigations service and then held at the Bucharest police detention centre under a 30-day pre-trial warrant issued by the Bucharest Tribunal; he is under investigation for complicity in aggravated robbery and continued procuring. Further suspects were reported to have concealed and sold goods stolen from the victim's home.
