   A woman who worked as a nurse and as a prostitute was beaten and killed with a drill in a ground-floor dwelling in vico Indoratori, in the historic centre of Genoa, in 1995. No source read for this record gives the day or month of the killing, so the date is recorded at year precision. The case remained unsolved for three decades. A car body repairman was eventually identified as a suspect and prosecuted, but he has remained at liberty throughout: the investigating judge, the review court and the Court of Cassation all rejected the prosecution's applications to arrest him. He is being tried by abbreviated procedure, which carries a sentence reduction of up to a third on conviction. DNA evidence is the central contested issue. At the closing argument on 8 September 2026 the prosecutor asked for a 30-year sentence, arguing that the strength of the genetic match left no realistic alternative explanation, and told the court that the killer had caused fear and anguish to the dying victim. A hearing for any replies and for the verdict was reserved for October 2026.
