Two people were killed in a knife attack at the Docemus school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, in the Oder-Spree district of Brandenburg, on the afternoon of 27 August 2026. Police confirmed the deaths and treated the incident as a violent crime. One victim was an 18-year-old female pupil. The second is reported to have been the school caretaker, who may have intervened. Both died at the scene of their injuries despite immediate medical treatment. A 19-year-old German man was arrested at the scene, and forensic work continued into the night. Police said that on their findings so far investigators were working on the assumption of a relationship-motivated act rather than a rampage, and that there were no indications of a rampage killing. The investigation into the motive is ongoing, and a tip-off portal was opened for witnesses. Emergency counsellors attended the school to support pupils, teachers and relatives. About 100 children and adults gathered that evening with flowers and candles for a commemoration, and a village festival planned for the following week was cancelled.

Police and prosecutors said early enquiries produced indications of a homicide. His 15-year-old son is the suspect and was provisionally arrested. The body of a 46-year-old woman was found in bushes in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, not far from the Zeiss Major Planetarium, by a passer-by on the morning of Friday 21 August 2026. "Initial examinations of the body, which must have lain there for some time, point to a homicide," police and the public prosecutor's office said. A murder investigation team of the Landeskriminalamt took over the case. The date of the killing has not been established. It cannot have been later than 21 August 2026, the morning the body was found, and was probably earlier, since the body had lain at the scene for some time before it was discovered. The victim's identity has been established, but nothing is known so far about the background to the case or about a possible perpetrator. On Sunday 23 August investigators issued a public appeal for witnesses, with a photograph of the victim and a description: about 1.70 metres tall and slim, wearing a brown sweat jacket, a brown T-shirt and striped fabric shorts when she was found. Investigators asked who had seen her in the area of the park, alone or in company, and who could say where she was last seen.

The body of a 19-year-old woman was found in the Bergfelde district of Hohen Neuendorf, north of Berlin in Brandenburg, and was reported on 14 August 2026. "Based on initial findings, a homicide must be assumed," a police spokesperson said. Forensic officers examined the scene and a murder investigation team took over the case. Police were also examining a possible connection to a death a few days earlier, when a person was struck by a long-distance train at a level crossing in Schönfließ on the afternoon of Wednesday 12 August. At that stage formal identification had not been completed and no further details, including the nature of the injuries, were released. Reporting on 17 August set out the post-mortem results. The victim was killed by sharp force in the apartment of her boyfriend, a 19-year-old man of the same age as her. He is the person who was struck by the train at Schönfließ, and police treat his death as suicide following the killing. The autopsies produced no indication of the involvement of any third party in the homicide. The date of the killing has not been established. It cannot have been later than 12 August 2026, the day the suspect died.

A 30-year-old man was shot dead on the Hardenbergplatz, in front of Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin, at about 11.50pm on Sunday 9 August 2026. Shots were fired after a dispute involving several people in the street, and the victim died at the scene despite attempts to resuscitate him. A homicide squad is investigating on behalf of the Berlin public prosecutor's office. The suspect or suspects left the scene by vehicle after the shooting and no arrest had been reported at the time of the cited coverage. The prosecution service gave no details of the people involved or of the background to the dispute, saying only that the investigation was continuing.

Two men were killed in the south of Augsburg on the evening of Monday 3 August 2026. Their bodies were found near an asylum accommodation. The victims were a 39-year-old man of Syrian and Saudi Arabian nationality and a 54-year-old Iraqi man. Police detained a 29-year-old man of Syrian and Saudi Arabian nationality on suspicion of two counts of manslaughter. An investigating judge subsequently issued an arrest warrant and he was remanded in custody. Officers searched the scene on the Tuesday morning. Police declined, citing the ongoing investigation, to say whether the suspect and the victims were residents of the nearby asylum accommodation. There is currently no indication of further suspects, and the background to the killings is under investigation.

A 35-year-old Dutch man from Enschede was found dead in a hotel room in Rees, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at midday on Sunday 26 July 2026. He had checked into the hotel the previous day and did not leave his room on time; hotel staff found him lifeless inside. The circumstances of the discovery led police to suspect a violent crime, and the Kleve public prosecutor's office together with the Krefeld and Kleve police opened an investigation and set up a murder commission. The victim had a muscle disease, used a wheelchair and depended on help for many daily activities. His wallet and his car were missing. A 42-year-old Dutch man was provisionally arrested near his home in the Netherlands during the night of Tuesday 28 July 2026; the victim's car was recovered at his address. On the application of the Kleve public prosecutor's office, a judge at Kleve district court issued an arrest warrant for murder in conjunction with robbery resulting in death, and a European arrest warrant was issued on that basis. Extradition proceedings are under way.

A van was driven into a crowd of people shortly after 22:00 on 25 July 2026 in the Tiergarten district of Berlin, on the fringes of the Christopher Street Day gathering that had taken place in the city that day. A woman was killed and 29 other people were injured, several of them seriously. The remainder of the CSD programme was called off. Berlin police issued a public wanted notice for the driver, who fled the scene and was described as armed and dangerous, and set up a witness hotline and an online reporting portal. No arrest or charge had been reported at the time of the cited sources, and the investigation into the motive was continuing.

The victim, a 58-year-old woman, was killed with a machete by the suspect, her 60-year-old husband, in a public area of Kelkheim on the evening of July 14, in view of witnesses. She suffered fatal injuries to the head, neck, and torso at the scene. According to the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office, the couple had been married since 1991 and had lived separately for about three years; the victim had asked for a divorce in 2025, which the suspect reportedly refused to accept. Two people were killed and six injured on 4 May 2026 when a man drove a car several hundred metres through the pedestrian zone in the centre of Leipzig, striking a number of people. A 63-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man died. The six injured were aged between 21 and 87, two of them seriously. The driver brought the car to a stop himself and allowed himself to be arrested without resistance. He was initially placed in a psychiatric hospital. On 28 August 2026, nearly four months after the attack, the public prosecutor's office charged the 33-year-old German with two counts of murder and 85 counts of attempted murder, together with 91 counts of serious dangerous interference with road traffic. The higher number of attempted-murder counts reflects everyone the car was driven at along the route, not only those it struck. The Regional Court in Leipzig has still to decide whether to admit the indictment and when any trial might begin. Because a provisional written forensic-psychiatric opinion found no indication of diminished criminal responsibility, the prosecution applied to lift the psychiatric placement and for an arrest warrant. Investigators reported that the accused had been a voluntary psychiatric inpatient until his discharge at the end of April, days before the attack, and that he was already known to police in connection with threats and offences against personal honour in his social circle. No information was given about the background or motive. Investigators had previously said there was no indication of a political or religious motive.

A 19-year-old woman was beaten to death in the Käfertaler Wald near Mannheim in the early hours of 11 March 2026. Her body was found by a walker later that day, and a 17-year-old was arrested the same day and remanded in custody. In August 2026 the Mannheim public prosecutor's office charged him with her murder, alleging that he killed her out of jealousy. According to the charge, the suspect struck the victim in the face and head more than a dozen times with his fist in a wooded area near Mannheim, then struck her at least forty times with tree branches as she lay on the ground. The prosecution says he had come to suspect her of infidelity and considered himself dishonoured by remarks she had made, and that he decided to kill her after she repeatedly told him she wanted to end the relationship.

A four-year-old girl died on 18 September 2021 at a dental practice in Kronberg im Taunus, Hesse, after being anaesthetised for dental treatment. The anaesthetist had drawn propofol contaminated with fungi and bacteria from a single vial and administered it to an adult patient and then to four children over the course of the day, working without the required assistance and in serious breach of hygiene rules. The girl, the last patient of the day, died that night of multi-organ failure; the three other children fell severely ill, and when their parents telephoned the following day the doctor told them the symptoms were normal and that no ambulance was needed. In November 2024 the regional court convicted him of manslaughter by omission and three counts of attempted manslaughter by omission, sentencing him to ten years and six months' imprisonment. In January 2026 the Federal Court of Justice overturned central parts of that verdict, finding that the regional court had set the threshold for a murder conviction too high, and ordered a fresh examination of whether he had acted to conceal his own errors. The retrial opened before the Frankfurt regional court on 19 August 2026, with prosecutors alleging murder on the grounds that he deliberately delayed emergency care. A verdict is expected in early October 2026.
