A man of 18 was shot dead in the Bellefontaine quarter in the south of Toulouse on the evening of 15 September 2026, shortly after 11pm. He was hit by several gunshots and found dead at the scene. Investigators recovered a number of cartridge cases of different calibres. Two people on a scooter were seen at the location at the time of the shots and fled; no arrest has been reported. The Toulouse public prosecutor said the victim was known to the justice system for offences linked to drug trafficking, committed while he was still a minor. An investigation has been opened into murder by an organised gang and entrusted to the organised and specialised crime division.

The body of a 40-year-old woman was found at about five in the morning on Tuesday 8 September 2026 in a burning garage at a house in Launaguet, a commune north of Toulouse in Haute-Garonne. Her body was badly burned. An investigation was opened for the murder of a partner, led by the Toulouse Saint Michel gendarmerie research brigade. The victim's former partner, a 54-year-old man, was found nearby with a serious head injury and in a life-threatening condition. According to the prosecutor's office he was carrying a handgun that may have fired the cartridge case recovered from the garage. The victim was the mother of two children, the younger of them from her relationship with that man. He was already known to the courts: he was under judicial supervision that barred him from her home in Launaguet, from making contact with her and from carrying a weapon, and he was due to appear before the Toulouse criminal court in January over a complaint she had made about malicious calls, invasion of her privacy and psychological violence between October 2024 and July 2025. The prosecutor's office had issued her with a serious danger alarm phone in August 2025.

Un homme de 30 ans a été tué par balles le soir du vendredi 4 septembre 2026 à Vaulx-en-Velin, dans la Métropole de Lyon. Peu après 23 heures, alors qu'il se trouvait seul dans son véhicule stationné avenue Gabriel-Péri, dans le secteur du Supermarché aux puces, une autre voiture s'est arrêtée à sa hauteur et le passager a ouvert le feu à plusieurs reprises dans sa direction. Atteinte de plusieurs tirs, notamment au thorax, la victime est décédée quasi immédiatement à l'intérieur du véhicule. Le second véhicule a ensuite pris la fuite. Une enquête a été ouverte pour déterminer les circonstances de l'homicide. Aucune interpellation n'est rapportée à ce stade et, selon les premiers éléments, aucun lien avec le narcotrafic n'est établi, même si les sources locales replacent le fait divers dans un contexte de recrudescence d'homicides par arme à feu dans l'agglomération lyonnaise.

A 20-year-old man was shot dead and four other people were wounded in a shooting in a bar at 4 rue d'Amiens, in the 3rd arrondissement of Marseille, at about 12.30am on Sunday 30 August 2026. The bar is close to a known drug-dealing point in the city. The Marseille fire and rescue service attended the scene. The public prosecutor's office confirmed that one person had died and that four were wounded, one of them with a life-threatening prognosis. Two of the wounded are minors. A man was shot dead at about 7.30pm on the evening of Friday 28 August 2026 in Décines-Charpieu, a commune in the eastern suburbs of Lyon. He died at the scene. A second man was shot in the abdomen and taken to hospital in a serious condition. The Rhône prefecture announced the shooting and said the circumstances and motives were not yet clearly established. The prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region immediately sent CRS reinforcements to secure the neighbourhood, a working-class quarter of the commune. The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police. No arrest had been reported at the time of the cited coverage.

A car was driven deliberately into a group of people on the public highway opposite the railway station in Caen, Calvados, at about ten o'clock on the evening of Wednesday 26 August 2026. The victims were standing near a tram stop and a bus shelter in the station quarter. One person was killed and ten were injured. The prefect of Calvados, who went to the scene, said seven of the injured were in a critical condition and three more seriously but not critically hurt. Police said most of the casualties were foreign nationals, among them Afghan, Egyptian and Bangladeshi citizens. The area was sealed off by the authorities. The driver left the scene and was arrested about twenty kilometres away at Ouistreham. He is a 26-year-old man born in Russia, and according to the prefect he was not known to the intelligence services and was known to the police only for road-traffic offences. An investigation was opened for assassination and for intentional violence with a weapon, and was assigned to the organised and specialised crime division of Calvados. The deputy public prosecutor, speaking at the scene, said that for the moment the case did not appear to involve a terrorist motive but that the investigation was only beginning. The mayor of the city and witnesses said the car had driven off at speed after a brawl, and witnesses described a fight between two groups and an angry man who returned to the scene; none of this had been established at the time of the cited reports.

A 24-year-old delivery rider was stabbed in the neck in the 9th arrondissement of Paris on the afternoon of 25 August 2026, following a road altercation. According to witnesses and prosecutors, a van collided with the rider's fat bike — a fast electric bicycle — in a narrow street. A dispute broke out with the driver, who tried to leave; the cyclist punched him through the vehicle window and kicked the car door. As the driver pulled away and the cyclist ran after the vehicle, the driver stabbed him in the throat. A first-aider and passers-by compressed the wound at the scene while the rider bled heavily, and emergency services initially feared the carotid artery had been severed. A man was stabbed at about 1.30am on the night of Saturday 22 to Sunday 23 August 2026 at the place du 8-Mai-1945, in the États-Unis quarter of the 8th arrondissement of Lyon, during a brawl. He was stabbed in the abdomen and the head, was treated as an absolute emergency and was taken to the Hôpital Édouard-Herriot in the 3rd arrondissement. An investigation was opened for attempted murder and violence with a weapon. The presumed assailant, a 33-year-old man who was himself slightly wounded in the fight, was arrested shortly after the incident and placed in police custody. In the days that followed, the victim's 27-year-old son was also arrested, suspected of having used violence against the presumed assailant. A 23-year-old man was shot dead at about 9.15pm on Wednesday 19 August 2026 in the Champ-le-Boeuf quarter of Maxéville, a commune of some 10,000 people on the edge of Nancy in Meurthe-et-Moselle. The mayor, who went to the scene, said an armed group had come to kill a young man standing at the foot of his building and had pursued him to his home. Bullet impacts were found on the building. On Saturday 22 August the Nancy prosecutor's office announced that a suspect had been brought before an investigating magistrate, placed under formal investigation for assassinat and remanded in custody. According to the deputy prosecutor, the suspect admits having fired at the victim and says the shooting arose from drug trafficking. The suspect's age was not disclosed. Further shots were fired nearby on the Thursday morning, leaving sixteen bullet impacts on the door of a flat whose occupants — a couple and their children — were away at the time. The prosecutor's office said those shots appeared to be connected to the shooting of 19 August.

A homeless man in his sixties was beaten to death in the centre of Alençon, in the Orne, during the night of 17 to 18 August 2026. Police were alerted to an assault in progress and found him seriously injured but conscious. He died about twenty minutes later. According to the prosecutor of Caen, witness statements and video footage led police to detain several people who, after drinking earlier in the evening, had been in contact with the victim and had gone on drinking with him before the group separated. Running short of drink, two of them decided to retrieve a bottle they had left with him. They found the man, who walked with a crutch. One of them put him on the ground, beat him and struck him with his own crutch, while the second filmed the scene. On 20 August 2026 the prosecutor announced the opening of a judicial investigation for murder, failure to report a crime and failure to assist a person in danger, against four men. A 21-year-old was placed under formal investigation for the murder of a vulnerable person and remanded in custody; he faces a possible life sentence. Three others, aged between 17 and 25, who had witnessed the assault or been told of it, were placed under formal investigation for failure to assist a person in danger and/or failure to report a crime, and were placed under judicial supervision.

An 82-year-old woman resident at a care home in Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine, was found dead in her bed on the evening of Sunday 16 August 2026, at around 11.30pm. The Rennes public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for the murder of a vulnerable person. According to the deputy prosecutor, nursing staff found her in her bed with a pillow over her face. A police source told AFP that she was an invalid and was not able to move independently. The cause of death has not been established. Pending the results of anatomo-pathological analysis, the deputy prosecutor said that forensic doctors had so far found no sign of suffocation or strangulation and that the causes of death "remain very uncertain". The investigation has been entrusted to the organised and specialised crime division in Rennes. No arrest had been reported at the time of the cited reports.

A 60-year-old woman was stabbed three times in the common parts of a building on avenue Georges-Clemenceau in central Nice, a few minutes' walk from the main station, at about 00:34 on Sunday 16 August 2026. She was wounded once in the abdomen and twice in the head and was taken to the Nice university hospital, where her life was reported to be in danger. She survived. A 33-year-old neighbour, hearing shouting in the courtyard, went out onto his balcony and saw a man kneeling over a person lying on the ground and repeating a rapid movement with his left hand. He said he had not seen the knife at that point. He intervened, and reporting credits him with saving the woman's life. He was awarded the city medal by the mayor of Nice at the town hall on Monday 17 August, and told Le Figaro he had acted "by instinct" and "without thinking". An emergency call warned police that the man was armed with a knife, and an anti-crime brigade crew already nearby arrested him at the scene. He was himself injured and was taken to hospital for treatment. The prosecutor's office in Nice confirmed that the man arrested was held in police custody for attempted murder, and that the investigation was assigned to the Nice criminal brigade. No charge in the case is reported in any of the cited sources. Early reporting that the attack involved a rape was subsequently corrected: the prosecutor's office confirmed that the victim was not raped.

An 18-year-old man was shot dead outside a nightclub in Montpellier in the early hours of Saturday 15 August 2026. The Montpellier public prosecutor's office announced the death on Monday 17 August. According to the prosecutor's statement he had just left the club at closing time, after 5am, when shots were fired. Hearing the detonations he took cover in the ditch beside the road, and was hit fatally in the head. He "did not appear to have been specifically targeted". Early findings indicate that a brawl broke out inside the club involving two individuals and the security staff, and continued outside, where shots were exchanged. An investigation is under way and CCTV footage from the club was to be recovered. The prefecture had already ordered the establishment closed on administrative grounds and said it would be sanctioned again.

A 16-year-old boy was shot and seriously wounded on a public street in Villeurbanne, in the Lyon metropolitan area, at around 1am on Saturday 15 August 2026. He was hit in the abdomen and in one calf and was taken to the Édouard Herriot hospital in Lyon, where he was admitted with his life in danger. According to a police source, two people fled the scene after the shooting, and cartridge cases of 7.62 and 7.65 mm calibre were recovered there. A source close to the case said the attackers were travelling on scooters and were armed with a long gun and a handgun, and placed the shooting in the Grandclément quarter. The Lyon public prosecutor's office said an investigation was opened on 15 August for attempted murder by an organised gang, transport and possession of a weapon, and criminal association, and was entrusted to the Rhône organised and specialised crime division. A partially burned body was found lying between rows of vines on a wine estate at Saint-Gilles, in the Gard, on the morning of Wednesday 12 August 2026. An agricultural worker arriving at work discovered it and alerted the gendarmes. The Nîmes public prosecutor's office announced that initial findings had established the body to be that of a woman, not identified at that stage, and opened an investigation for assassinat — murder with premeditation. Local media reported on 17 August that the body is believed to be that of an influencer from the department, aged 29, who had a large following on social media. Two municipal police officers were attacked with a bladed weapon in Toulouse on the evening of Monday 10 August 2026. They were on patrol with a third officer in the city's streets when a man set upon them. One officer was wounded in the arm and the neck, the other in the elbow. Both were taken to the Rangueil teaching hospital and neither was in a life-threatening condition. The Toulouse public prosecutor's office opened an investigation for attempted murder of persons holding public authority, and assigned it to the organised and specialised crime division. The attacker was reported to have made remarks of a terrorist character during the attack. A 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a brawl in Montpellier late on the evening of Sunday 9 August 2026. The attack took place at about 11.20pm on the allée Alberto Giacometti, near the Georges Charpak park in the Port-Marianne district in the east of the city, close to a children's play area. Two groups of young people aged between 16 and 19 — at least seven in all, according to witnesses — fought for reasons that have not been established. One of them drew a knife and struck a minor from the rival group twice, once in the arm and once fatally in the chest. The attackers fled the scene on scooters. A doctor and his partner, a nurse, who lived nearby gave first aid including cardiac massage, the victim being in cardio-respiratory arrest. He was taken to the CHU Lapeyronie and died there at around 2am. Three people were taken into police custody over the killing. On the Monday morning a 17-year-old presented himself at a Montpellier police station, describing himself as the person who inflicted the knife wounds. On Wednesday 12 August he was placed under formal investigation for murder and remanded in provisional detention.

A 17-year-old boy was killed on Monday 3 August 2026 in the Madeleine district of Nice. His father, a 59-year-old care assistant, contacted police that afternoon saying he had just killed his son and intended to take his own life. Taken into custody on leaving hospital on suspicion of murder with premeditation, the suspect made initial admissions during questioning. According to a statement from the Nice public prosecutor's office, he said he had smothered his son with a pillow over his face and then strangled him with an iron cable, before placing the body in a body bag he had taken from his workplace at a hospital months or years earlier. He attributed the killing to a breakdown against the background of a marital separation. Three women were wounded with kitchen knives on the morning of Monday 27 July 2026 at the Porte de Clichy tram stop, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. The attack took place at about 11:30. The victims were aged 19, 24 and 36. Two of them were struck in the lower back and in the abdomen and were initially in a serious condition, but their lives were not in danger; the woman wounded in the abdomen was eight months pregnant. The third was wounded in the shoulder. A 31-year-old man armed with two kitchen knives was arrested at the scene at 11:35 by an off-duty police officer. He was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. He was known to psychiatric services, and the following day his police custody was lifted on psychiatric grounds and he was taken to the psychiatric infirmary of the Paris police prefecture. No charge has been reported.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was found on the ground at the foot of a building in Rennes on July 15 wearing only underwear bottoms, one wrist tied with a rope, and with multiple fractures from a roughly 10-metre fall from the 4th floor. She told investigators that her partner, motivated by jealousy, had assaulted her, forced her to undress, prevented her from fleeing the home, and tied one of her hands before pushing her as she tried to reach the balcony. The suspect, a 28-year-old man, was arrested, formally charged with attempted homicide, and jailed; he disputes intent to kill, claiming she fell on her own while he tried to catch her.

A man was shot dead in Toulon, in the Var, during the week of 13 to 19 July 2026. He and his attacker had argued beforehand and had arranged to meet through social media. The attacker waited at a concealed position and fired twice at the victim's car as it arrived at the agreed place; one round struck the driver in the head, and the vehicle crashed. Emergency services took him to the nearest hospital in a critical condition, where he died shortly afterwards. Several witnesses told French police they had seen the suspect carrying a firearm near the scene. The gunman fled. French investigators established that people close to him had given him money and driven him by road to Barcelona so that he could leave the European Union as soon as possible. The Toulon public prosecutor's office issued an international arrest order on the day of the killing, and French authorities issued a European Arrest and Surrender Order and asked the Spanish National Police for assistance. Officers from the fugitives group of the provincial judicial police brigade placed the hotel where he was believed to be staying under surveillance and arrested him there on 24 July 2026. A Barcelona court ordered his immediate surrender to France, where the offence carries a sentence of life imprisonment.

The remains of two young soldiers from French Polynesia were recovered in the Bouches-du-Rhône in July 2026, several years after their families reported them missing. Six adult members of one family, originally from New Caledonia and living in the Claret quarter of Toulon, have been under formal investigation since May 2026 for murder, human trafficking, unlawful imprisonment by an organised gang and failure to report crimes, the exact grounds varying between them. Five of the six are in pre-trial detention. According to the Toulon public prosecutor's office, the family is suspected of having exploited the isolation of young servicemen who had come from the Pacific islands to be stationed in Toulon, robbing them, assaulting them and holding them captive in the Toulon area between 2011 and 2023. Seven other young Polynesian soldiers told investigators they had been "progressively stripped of their means of payment and their identity documents, assaulted and held captive". Residents of the quarter, where the Polynesian community is large, described the family arriving at parties at their height with alcohol and provisions. The investigation was still under way at the time of the cited report.

Dans la nuit du samedi 27 au dimanche 28 juin 2026, peu avant 5 heures du matin, un homme de 19 ans a été tué par balle rue Jules Grandjouan, près du parking du centre commercial Paridis, au nord-est de Nantes. Selon les premiers éléments recueillis par ICI Loire Océan, la victime se trouvait avec deux amis dans une voiture lorsqu'un autre véhicule est arrivé et que les tirs sont partis. Peu de temps avant, les trois occupants avaient été poursuivis par ce second véhicule depuis la route de Carquefou. L'un de ses occupants a tiré sur la victime, qui était inconnue des services de police. Ses amis ont alerté les secours, qui l'ont retrouvée sur le parking du centre commercial en arrêt cardio-respiratoire. Elle n'a pas pu être réanimée. Aucune interpellation n'était signalée au moment des faits. Il s'agissait du cinquième décès par arme à feu recensé dans la ville depuis le début de l'année 2026.

A far-right activist was fatally injured in Lyon on 12 February 2026 during violent confrontations between two groups on the margins of a conference given by a left-wing MEP at the city's Sciences Po campus. He died of his injuries two days later. Video of the confrontation published by a national weekly on 17 February shows two groups of about ten people fighting, with a crutch, an umbrella, a tear-gas canister and a smoke flare used. Nine people have been placed under judicial examination in the investigation into the death — eight for intentional homicide and one, a former parliamentary assistant to a left-wing MP, for complicity in murder by instigation. All nine are in pre-trial detention, and three investigating magistrates are handling the case. The victim was 23 years old. In July 2026 two of those charged filed complaints with the Lyon public prosecutor against fifteen far-right activists present on 12 February, alleging premeditated violence committed in a group, with weapons and with concealed faces. That complaint falls under a separate preliminary investigation into the conduct of the far-right group, which is being conducted independently of the homicide investigation. A lawyer for one of the charged men argues the two proceedings are inseparable and that evidence gathered in the preliminary investigation is being withheld from the magistrates investigating the death. On Tuesday 22 September 2026 eight further people were arrested in connection with the case. Five of them were placed under judicial examination for criminal conspiracy, and four of those also for aggravated violence committed with the use or threat of a weapon, in a group and with the face deliberately concealed, followed by an incapacity not exceeding eight days. The prosecutor sought pre-trial detention for three of them and judicial supervision for the other two. These eight were arrested over possible participation in the brawls that took place on the day of the victim's death, and their charges fall under the separate preliminary investigation into the violence rather than under the homicide investigation, whose nine charges are unchanged.

A woman was stabbed to death on the morning of Monday 20 March 2023 in the entrance hall of an apartment building on a quiet street in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the place de la Bastille. Her attacker, wearing a black motorcycle helmet, a blue surgical mask, black motorcycle gloves and a blue Deliveroo delivery bag, stabbed her repeatedly in the throat and chest. Around ten schoolchildren witnessed the attack through the glazed door of the building, and adults alerted by their cries were unable to intervene because the door was locked. The victim's husband is accused of her murder. Investigators found that the killing had been meticulously prepared, with a financial motive, and that the delivery-rider disguise was part of that preparation. He is committed for trial before an assize court in January; the source gives the month without the year.

Un ancien rugbyman international argentin, âgé de 42 ans, a été tué par balles à Paris le 19 mars 2022, vers 6h15 du matin, devant un hôtel du quartier Saint-Germain-des-Prés, dans le 6e arrondissement. Il se trouvait à Paris pour assister à un match du Tournoi des Six Nations. Un peu plus tôt, il avait retrouvé un ami et associé dans un bar du quartier, où un différend avait éclaté avec un groupe de personnes. Deux militants d'ultradroite sont jugés devant la cour d'assises de Paris à partir du lundi 7 septembre 2026, l'un pour assassinat, l'autre pour tentative d'assassinat visant l'ami de la victime. Tous deux sont en détention provisoire depuis leur arrestation, quatre jours après les faits. Deux autres personnes sont poursuivies pour complicité. Le lundi 14 septembre 2026, la mère de la victime a témoigné devant la cour. Le mercredi 23 septembre 2026, au terme de plus de trois semaines de débats, l'avocat général a requis 27 ans de réclusion criminelle contre l'accusé principal et 20 ans contre le second accusé, sans période de sûreté. Il a demandé l'acquittement de l'ex-compagne de l'accusé principal du chef de complicité de tentative d'assassinat, tout en requérant contre elle trois ans de prison dont douze mois avec sursis pour d'autres faits, et trois ans dont vingt-quatre mois avec sursis contre un ami du second accusé, poursuivi pour l'avoir aidé dans sa cavale et avoir dissimulé l'arme. Le verdict est attendu le vendredi 25 septembre 2026. Devant les enquêteurs, l'accusé principal a affirmé s'être senti en danger et avoir réagi de façon instinctive en ouvrant le feu. Selon la presse, il aurait tenu en détention un discours très différent. Le vendredi 25 septembre 2026, la cour d'assises de Paris a rendu son verdict, quatre ans et demi après les faits. Elle n'a pas retenu les qualifications d'assassinat et de tentative d'assassinat : elle a jugé que les deux accusés avaient bien eu l'intention de tuer, mais qu'ils n'avaient pas prémédité leur geste, le président relevant que la préméditation suppose un dessein réfléchi avec un intervalle avant l'acte et que ce temps avait été trop court pour qu'ils aient pu se concerter. L'accusé principal a été condamné à 26 ans de réclusion criminelle pour meurtre, et le second à 19 ans de prison pour tentative de meurtre. L'ex-compagne de l'accusé principal a été condamnée à trois ans de prison, dont trente mois avec sursis, pour dissimulation de preuves, et acquittée du chef de complicité de tentative d'assassinat. Un ami du second accusé a été condamné à trois ans de prison avec sursis pour les mêmes faits. Tous les condamnés disposent de dix jours pour faire appel, de même que l'avocat général.
